Overview
FPS Senior Schools strike a perfect harmony between a rigorous curriculum and a vast extracurricular program. The aim of the senior schools is to prepare our students for A Level, university, and beyond. Our Senior Schools follow the CAIE syllabus.
For Grades 7 and Grade 8 our curriculum is focused on the holistic development of our students. In addition to the core curriculum, students also take Digital Learning classes, learning 21st century skills in the process.
Introduction to O Level
In Grade 9, students are introduced to the world of O Level with a variety of new subjects including biology, chemistry and physics, bringing their total subject tally to 12. While this may seem daunting at first, the diversity of subjects is an integral part of the O Level experience, giving students an opportunity to explore their academic interests, before they have to make a pivotal decision at the end of the year.
Subject Selection
Before starting Grade 10, students select their O Level subjects for the next two years. In addition to the compulsory subjects, students must choose between Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and Business Groups as Major subject groups. Students must also select two electives for a wide variety of subjects to further explore their academic interests. The subject list and possible combinations can be seen below.
CAIE Prepartion
In Grades 10 and 11 students focus on their compulsory subjects along with the major groups and elective subjects that they have opted for. Students get rigorous practice of learning outcomes, past papers, marking scheme and examiners’ reports during this time. Students appear for their Pakistan Studies, Urdu and Islamiyat O Level examinations in Grade 10 and appear for the remaining examinations in Grade 11.
Test Week
The Test Week, as the name suggests, is a calendar week dedicated to subject testing. Tests for all subjects are held during this week. Mid-Terms are held in the month of December and final exams are held in the month of April-May. The Test Week promotes academic rigor throughout the year and also ensures that the syllabi is consistently being reviewed by our students, thus preparing them for success in their CAIE examinations.
Academic Assistance Program
An academic assistance program is also available at our Senior Schools. Students that may need extra help or remedial classes in any subject can opt to enroll in the after-school programme at no additional cost. Subjects are taught by our Teacher’s Assistants (TAs), who are our very own FPS A Level students, under the guidance and supervision of our O Level faculty. We do not encourage our students to take any tuitions and this programme is aimed to help curb the pervasive tuition culture in the city.
Counseling
FPS also offers counseling services for its students. Academic counselors meet with students starting in Grade 9 to help them map out their future. Counselors assess individual strength and weaknesses, academic interests and career objectives before designing a blue print to success. Academic counselors also help students with their subject selection for O and A Level and meet with both students and parents individually or in group settings. FPS has a diverse and thriving extracurricular life and community service opportunities at the senior school. For more information, please visit the Life at FPS page here.
